The Bodyguards

She rarely went to the market place,
But when she did, the bodyguards raced.
One on each side while one paced ahead,
It was an ominous sight foreboding dread!

As the troop hogged the narrow pavement,
People gave way to this marching movement.
A little embarrassed but grinning nevertheless,
She patted her street dogs and said, you’re the best!

Energized, the bodyguards walked close beside her,
Venturing into streets belonging to others.
They wagged their tails, their heads held high
For they had a master none could defy.

She had an errand to do and walked into a store,
But the leader of the pack followed her there.
She quickly stepped out saying, “you can’t come in,
Let’s return to our street where you’re the king.”
